Mccleary Building is very professional and knowledgeable contractor. I now have 2 houses built by Matt on the ocean and they are holding up very well. One of them he had built and we bought it after it was completed and the other we built from scratch with Matt. I know on both houses Matt would stand behind any issues we would have but the good news is that in 6 years we have had no issues. The second house had a lot of unusual design issues to deal with and Matt was able to easily work through all of them. We worked with Matt/McCleary Builders to add a second-story family room over our existing garage, and to renovate our first floor layout to incorporate space for a mudroom coming in from the garage. I will say without reservation that Matt is hands-down the best builder we have ever worked with. From roof demo to final finish work, Matt’s attention to detail, ability to properly scope out the project (time and price), getting the right subcontractors in (and then out), and frequent updates on progress and next steps set him above the rest. Some things that speak to Matt’s ability as a builder: 1. His references were uniformly positive and all of them went out of their way to speak with me. All of them mentioned his ability to complete projects on-time/on-budget as well as the high quality of his work. 2. After installing second floor dormer windows, he offered to move the first floor windows to so that they lined up with the dormers, free of charge. I think this speaks to Matt’s desire to do the job correctly instead of as cheap/fast as possible. 3. Subcontractors seemed to go out of their way and clear their schedule for Matt’s job’s which tells me he has a solid reputation with them. When the painter could not get back in to finish our job, Matt finished the painting himself rather than waiting for their schedule to clear. 4. We would hear from Matt daily (either by email, phone, or text) updating us on progress at the house and asking about major design decisions. His input on some of these decisions was always helpful. He understood our price point and design preferences and narrowed down the options accordingly. 5. The site was ALWAYS clean and picked up (inside and out) both at the end of the day and end of the week. His team understood that we would be living there while the renovation was going on and went out of their way to minimize the disruption. He even moved our washer and dryer to an interim location so we could keep up with the wash. 6. Matt’s workers were as dedicated to the job as he was, even when Matt wasn’t at the site. 7. We asked Matt to do some additional finish work after completion of the main project which we happily agreed to do despite a full schedule of other projects. This speaks to Matt’s desire to finish each project to the complete satisfaction of the client. We were very fortunate to find Matt and his team and be able hire them for our renovation.
